Builds

In Racko, builds are used to manage the assembly of finished goods from raw materials or components. This feature is essential for businesses involved in manufacturing or assembly processes.

Overview

  • Builds convert component items into finished goods (assemblies).
  • Each build transaction decreases the inventory of components and increases the inventory of the finished good.
  • The system supports multi-level bills of materials (BOMs) for complex assemblies.

Creating a Build

To create a new build:

  1. Navigate to Build in the main menu.

  2. Click on Add New on the top right.

  3. Fill out the build form with the following information:

    • Build Number: Automatically generated or manually entered
    • Date: The date of the build. Defaults to today's date.
    • Warehouse: Location where the build is taking place. Defaults to the warehouse set as the default for the user creating the build.
    • Internal Notes: Any additional information about the build
  4. In the Built Items section:

    • Select the Item to be built
    • Enter the Quantity to build
    • Specify the Bin Location where the finished goods will be stored (if bin tracking is enabled for the warehouse)
    • Enter Lot or Serial numbers if the item is lot or serial tracked
  5. In the Line Items section:

    • Add each component item required for the build
    • Enter the Quantity of each component used
    • Specify the Bin Location where each component is stored (if applicable)
    • Enter Lot or Serial numbers for components if they are tracked
  6. Add any additional information such as Class, Project Code, or Department if needed

  7. Click Save to create the build

Managing Builds

Build Statuses

Builds in Racko can have the following statuses:

  • Pending: The build has been created but production hasn't started
  • Production: The build is currently in progress
  • Complete: The build has been finished and inventory has been updated
  • Cancelled: The build has been cancelled and won't be completed

Tracking Build Progress

  • Use the build status to track the progress of each build
  • Update the status as the build moves through different stages of production
  • Stock moves are created automatically when the build is completed.

Lot and Serial Tracking

  • Racko allows you to track components by lot or serial number
  • This feature is crucial for businesses that need to maintain traceability of their materials

Bin Locations

  • Specify bin locations for both components and finished goods
  • This helps in maintaining accurate inventory locations within your warehouse

Best Practices

  1. Always ensure you have sufficient component inventory before starting a build.
  2. Regularly review pending and in-production builds to ensure timely completion.
  3. Use the internal notes field to record any special instructions or observations about the build.
  4. Regularly reconcile your inventory after completing builds to ensure accuracy.
  5. Use custom fields to capture additional build-specific information relevant to your business.
