Bill of Materials (BOM)
A Bill of Materials (BOM) in Racko is a comprehensive list that specifies the components, quantities, and costs required to manufacture a finished product or assembly. It's an essential feature for businesses involved in manufacturing or assembly processes.
Overview
- BOMs define the structure and composition of assembled products.
- They specify the exact quantities of each component needed to produce one unit of the finished good.
- BOMs help in accurate cost calculation, inventory management, and production planning.
Creating a Bill of Materials
To create a new BOM:
- Navigate to Inventory > Item in the main menu.
- Find and select the assembly item for which you want to create a BOM.
- In the item detail view, click on the BOM tab.
BOM Components
In the BOM editor, you'll see a table with the following fields for each component:
- Item: The component item code or name
- Description: A brief description of the component
- Quantity: The amount of this component needed for one unit of the assembly
- UOM (Unit of Measure): The unit in which the quantity is expressed
- Unit Cost: The cost per unit of the component
- Total Cost: Automatically calculated (Quantity * Unit Cost)
Adding Components
To add a component to the BOM:
- Select the Item of the component each line.
- Enter the Quantity of the component needed.
- Repeat for each component needed in the assembly.
Best Practices
- Ensure all components are correctly identified and quantities are accurate.
- Regularly review and update BOMs to reflect any changes in the production process or component costs.
- Use base units of measure across your BOMs for easier management and reporting.
- Consider creating multi-level BOMs for complex products with sub-assemblies.
